The Company has been operating in the plastic processing industry for 60 years.

PET is a plastic polymer used to manufacture plastic bottles and for other packaging applications for the beverage, food and personal care industries. PET has key technical advantages compared to competing packaging materials for food and drink, particularly its versatility, durability, heat resistance, light weight, cost-competitiveness and 100% recyclability.

PET is produced principally from purified terephthalic acid (“PTA”) and monoethylene glycol (“MEG”). We can manufacture and offer the full range of PET grades, suitable for a variety of applications; not all producers are able to match this offering. There is good growth potential for virgin PET resin, with global demand estimated at 18.6 million tons in 2012 and expected to reach 26.8 million tons in 2017 at a forecast CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of approximately 7.5%, according to PAL.
In the PET industry, a key part of the technology innovation is the engineering and the construction of the production plants, in which M&G Chemicals has always been a leader through its affiliate company Chemtex, withits unique proprietary technology which allows the building of much larger and more efficient single PET lines, hence providing the company with lower Capex costs, lower production costs per metric ton than competitors using traditional technology.
M&G Chemicals has 320 kMT/year average nominal capacity per line, which represents nearly twice the mean capacity of sector, and its largest single line capacity (in Suape, Brazil), amounts to 650 kMT, more than twice the sector average.
Moreover, the Company’s leadership in product innovation is founded on 60 years of experience in plastic processing, a significant commitment to R&D and in-depth knowledge of the application of plastic polymers. Today, M&G Chemicals is the only PET producer with exclusive and proprietary access to second generation bio-technology to produce EPT raw materials from biomass.

In April 2013, M&G Chemicals began the procedures for the construction of a vertically integrated PTA/PET plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States with an expected nominal capacity of 1,100 kMT/year for the PET plant and 1,300 kMT/year for the PTA plant. The Corpus Christi plant is expected to begin production in 2017 and will be the largest vertically integrated single line in the world and the largest PTA plant in the Americas, according to PAL.
M&G Chemicals, trhough Chemtex, is also planning the construction in China of two bio-ethanol plants implementing new biotechnologies being developed by our affiliates in the Mossi Ghisolfi Group, with expected nominal capacity of 110 kMT/year each, and one E2E plant, with expected nominal capacity of 220 kMT/year, all three of which are expected to become operational in mid-2015. This will allow us to capture the additional margins of upstream petrochemical businesses with lower investment costs, and to capitalize on the growth in global demand for sustainable polyester
The world’s largest resin-processing plant is expected to be fully operational by mid-2017, creating up to 250 permanent jobs and manufacturing over a million tons of PET resin a year at Port Corpus Christi.
